(re) Self-Discovery

Hi! It’s been a while.

And by a while, I mean a whole year, give or take a month (oh, who am I kidding – it’s been 13 months exactly). And in that time, a lot has changed…like, a whole lot.

But instead of going in to the specifics of the what, I’d prefer to take up this space within my little corner of the internet to discuss the WHY. The HOW. You know, the important, meatier stuff that’s truly worth talking about. The most vital of these being stumbling across my very accidental RE-Self Discovery. Yeah, I capitalized that…call me Pretentious (see what I did there?).Often times, people go through severely negative periods in their life that sparks a plug in them to affect change within their own lives. This change is highly intentional,  driven by the desire to “fix” something. People come out on the other side of a situation feeling new and shiny. While important to one’s growth, these should not be the only circumstances that inspire change; it’s not necessary for you to encounter a negative experience in order to go on a journey of self discovery. Don’t limit yourself that way.

I experienced this myself this past year. While nothing detrimentally wrong happened,  I still found myself reflecting constantly.

“Is where I am where I want to be?” “What is most important to me?” “How do I make that the focus of my life?”

I didn’t realize it at the time, but those questions are so fundamentally human and should be asked daily – and they lead me to my journey of re-self discovery without my even realizing it. It lead me to recognize my PURPOSE.

My purpose? To be a representation of light and of Christ in this world. To teach my son strength, kindness and wisdom. To create, rather than simply consume.

As we come to the end of 2017, I urge you to think beyond how many pounds you’d like to shed this coming year, that promotion you want to win, the new job you’re looking to score. Instead, concentrate on what makes you happy – and chase it. With everything in you, chase it. That doesn’t mean shirk your responsibilities and throw all caution to the wind; rather, figure out your purpose and apply it in little, everyday ways. Before you know it, you will have created the building blocks that will serve as your foundation, a foundation that will push you in the direction you need to go to fulfill your own purpose. So rediscover you. Stay mindful. Be present. Your life is constant and forever changing – so why would YOU want to stay the same?
